I cannot stress enough how important water is on the keto diet.

Keto guidelines state that we should be drinking water constantly throughout the day.

Let’s add some flavor to that water.

And, let me introduce you to Skinny Syrups.  Yum!!!!

Hydration & Keto – Why Is This Important?

How Much Water Should You Drink?

To calculate how much water you should be drinking every day, take your weight and divide it in half.  That number equals the number of ounces of water that you should be drinking each day.  Trust me, it’s a lot of water!!!

Although this results in peeing … LOTS, it also aids in appetite suppression and, in turn, weight loss.

It can be easy to lose track of how much water we drink every day.  Was that 7 cups or 8 cups???

To combat this, I ordered the product below from Amazon.  I keep it with me all day long and it makes tracking a breeze.

The BuildLife Motivational Water Bottle.

Water Enhancers

Although I do enjoy a nice glass of cold water, I’m not a fan of drinking 75 oz of plain old water every day.

Admittedly, I now seldom drink just plain water.  I use water enhancers every single day.  Some are quite good, others are awful!

Obviously, anything sweetened with sugar is not keto-friendly.  The best types of water enhancers are those sweetened with stevia

Stevia is a keto-friendly, carb-free sweetener that will soon become a staple in your cupboard.  (Some President’s Choice water enhancers are stevia-sweetened).

Mio water enhancers (with the green top) are also a good choice.  My personal favorites are the Crystal Light liquid brands; sweetened with sucralose.

Sucralose is not ‘ideal’ for keto, but I haven’t had any issues with it stalling my progress.  (Note that sucralose is not the same as sucrose; a sugar on the ‘avoid list below).

I found this great visual on Pinterest.

Soda Pop & Substitutes

I used to be a huge diet coke fan.  Although some say that diet sodas are perfectly fine on keto, I opted to remove them from my diet when I started.

I turned to carbonated/sparkling waters instead.  Some of my favorite zero sugar, zero-carb, zero-sugar options are Zevia and President’s Choice Free & Clear beverages.  Both of these brands come in a variety of flavors and are sweetened with stevia.

I also enjoy Sparkling Ice (sweetened with sucralose).  Please note that all of these brands are better choices than standard soda/pop as mixes for alcohol.

Coffee & Skinny Syrups

I can’t start the day without coffee. I would like to be grown-up and drink my coffee black, but I just can’t do it.  I’m one of those ‘splash of coffee with my sweeter’ kind of people.

Coffee and tea are perfectly acceptable on keto.  It’s the milk and sugar that aren’t.

Fortunately, there are keto friendly alternatives; one example being stevia with a bit of heavy whipping cream (in the keto world, this is referred to as hwc).

Having been a French Vanilla Cappuccino (Tim Horton’s) fan for years, coffee was likely the hardest adjustment for me when I started keto.

Skinny Syrups have saved me!!!  These zero calorie, zero carb mixes come in a variety of flavors; all the way from waffle cone, to salted caramel, to raspberry.

Many skinny syrups use sucralose as a sweetening agent.  As long as we don’t over-consume, it’s all good.

Morning Coffee & Craving Satisfier

I use skinny syrups every morning in my coffee.  My morning coffee (3 cups each morning) consists of a scoop of flavored collagen powder, divided into thirds, and a few tbs of whatever skinny syrup I am craving that day.  Delicious!

I also use skinny syrups if I am having a sweet craving.  I beat some heaving whipping cream and add a tbs or two of skinny syrup flavoring).  Right now, I am hooked on Chai and Pistachio.

If you are a lover of sweet coffee, you’re welcome!

Skinny Syrup Drink Combinations

Here are a few ideas of how to use skinny syrups to curb hunger, combat thirst, and fulfill that craving for something sweet.  There are endless combinations.  I encourage you to experiment with skinny syrup mixes.

When I say a ‘shot’, I mean about 1 tbs, or 1 pump – if you decide to buy a pump.  SS is the abbreviation for skinny syrup.

  • Beat a few tbs of hwc into fluff and then add a shot or two of SS (I recommend chai, banana split, pistachio, glazed donut, or cookie dough)

  • Unsweetened almond milk with a shot of any SS

  • Pineapple Bubly with a shot of coconut SS (tastes like a pina colada)

  • Orange Bubly with a splash of hwc and a shot of vanilla SS (tastes like a creamsicle)

  • Cinnamon apple tea with a shot of cinnamon vanilla, caramel, white chocolate, or glazed donut SS

  • Add a shot of blueberry lavender, dragon fruit, blueberry acai, lemon elderflower, or raspberry lemon to your water

  • Starbucks imitation drink – 6 tbs salted caramel SS, ¾ cup ice, splash of hwc, 1 ½ shots of espresso, and fill the rest of the glass with unsweetened almond milk and froth.

  • Mint chocolate latte – froth together 2 oz hwc, 1 oz water, ½ oz mint chocolate chip SS and pour over 1 cup of strong brewed coffee

  • Sprite zero with a shot of cherry or raspberry SS

Skinny Syrups = Great Cocktails

  • Pina colada – 3 tbs coconut SS, 3 tbs hwc, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and a shot of rum or vodka

  • Blue Lagoon – one shot rum, one shot vodka, one shot Mermaid SS

  • White Russian – one shot vodka, splash of hwc, one shot of dark chocolate espresso SS. Shake and pour over ice

  • Margarita – ½ cup of SS margarita mix, 1 oz tequila
