10 Ideas To Keep Children Safe

Safety Out Of The Home

Bells Will Be Ringing

Carefully attach a jingle bell (available from craft stores) to a wide elastic band.  Place this band around the ankle of your children when you are out and about.  This way, you will always be able to hear when children are moving away from you.

Creative Code

Establish a secret code word/phrase with your little ones.  If anyone unknown to them tries to pick them up from daycare/school/the park, etc., teach your little to ask for the secret code word phrase.  If the stranger doesn’t give the correct word, teach your child to run to the nearest adult they can see.

Picture Perfect

Before venturing out for the day, take a photo of your children with your cell phone.  In case children get lost, parents have a fresh photo that shows them in the clothes that they were wearing that day.

Spell It Out

When taking children on an outing, go to your local craft store and purchase letter and number beads.  On a piece of cord, spell out, “Call my parents at (insert cell phone number).”  Have children wear this around their necks.  Or, number beads can be placed on a bracelet.  Be sure to tell children that, if separated from parents, they should show the necklace or bracelet to a security officer or another adult.  (Recommend that your children approach an adult who has children with him/her – another safety issue!)

Traffic Lights

Teach young children how to play red, green light.  When out in public and children begin to venture away, a simple ‘Red light’ command, will stop them in their tracks.

Safety At Home

Lock ‘Em Up

Prevent littles ones from getting into cupboards and cabinets where all sorts of danger products lurk.  These magnetic locks with corner guards (from Amazon) are perfect to up security!

Finger Saver

It’s common for little ones to get their fingers pinched in doors at home.  These colorful foam door stoppers are a great fix to prevent pinched fingers.

Firm Up The Furniture

Littles ones like to climb on furniture items – not only out of curiosity but also to get higher to get a better view.  Make sure that all furniture is secured to the wall using these fabulous anti-tip furniture anchors.

Plug It Up

To prevent our littles ones from sticking ‘things’ into electric sockets, be sure to use outlet plugs.

Sock It To ‘Em

Save money by placing socks over doorknobs.  Small hands are not able to easily open doors when the handles are covered with socks.
